Embark on an enchanting journey through the heart of the Eastern Himalaya, a region brimming with natural beauty and cultural diversity. Your exploration continues through Pelling's ancient monasteries, Gangtok's Buddhist heritage, and Kalimpong's colonial charm. Along the way, you'll discover sacred monasteries, lush tea gardens, and picturesque waterfalls. This journey through the Eastern Himalaya is a perfect blend of scenic wonders and cultural treasures.

 

Day 1: Bagdogra - Darjeeling (62kms)

Your adventure commences with your arrival at Bagdogra airport, where you will be greeted and swiftly transferred to the enchanting hill station of Darjeeling. After checking in at your hotel, take some time to rest and savor the serene ambiance of this "Queen of the Hills." Darjeeling, with its Victorian architecture, lush tea gardens, and breathtaking views of the Himalayas, promises a delightful stay. In the evening, embark on an exploration of the Mall, a famous shopping district in Darjeeling. Your first day in this scenic wonderland concludes with a comfortable overnight stay.

 

Day 2: Darjeeling

Set your alarm early and prepare for a magical sunrise experience. At around 4 am, you'll head to Tiger Hill, where you'll witness the first rays of the sun painting the Kangchenjunga and Everest peaks with a golden hue. As you return, make a stop at Ghoom Monastery and the Batasia Loop to further enrich your morning.

After breakfast, your day unfolds with visits to significant attractions. Begin with the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, followed by the Zoological Park (closed on Thursdays). Continue to the Tenzing Rock, Ropeway viewpoint, Tibetans Refugee Center (closed on Sundays), and Happy Valley Tea Garden, where you can admire the lush plantations from the outside. One of the highlights of your day is a toy train ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Venture to a Tibetan village to visit the Choling and Darli Buddhist monasteries, absorbing the spiritual atmosphere. The evening is yours to explore the local market and indulge in shopping. You'll return to your hotel for a peaceful overnight stay.

 

Day 3: Darjeeling - Pelling (75kms)

After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, you'll journey to Pelling, a place known for its scenic beauty and cultural treasures. Upon checking in at your hotel, you'll have some time to relax.

Later in the day, your exploration begins with a visit to the Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest and most prestigious monasteries in the region. You'll also delve into history with a visit to the Rabdentse Ruins, an ancient historical site tucked away in a dense forest. The journey continues to the Tashiding Monastery, a sacred place for the Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism, nestled atop a hill between the Rathong chu and the Rangeet River.

Additional attractions on your itinerary include the Sanga Choeling Monastery, built in the Tibetan style of architecture, and the serene Rimbi Waterfalls, a place where you can relax and soak in the tranquil ambiance. As the day comes to a close, you'll return to your hotel for a restful overnight stay.

 

Day 4: Pelling - Gangtok (120kms)

Following a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you'll set out on a picturesque journey to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The route, through Temi, Taraku, Singtam, Rangpo, and Ranipool, promises lush green forests and tea gardens, with captivating panoramic views.

Upon reaching Gangtok, you'll check in at your hotel and have some time to unwind. Your evening in Gangtok is free for you to explore and relax, and you'll spend the night at your hotel.

 

Day 5: Gangtok

Start your day with a sumptuous breakfast before embarking on a journey to some of Gangtok's prominent landmarks. Your day begins with a visit to the Rumtek Monastery, a standout of Tibetan Buddhist architecture. It's the most noteworthy monastery of the Black Hat sect of Tibetan Buddhism and stands three stories high.

The exploration continues with a visit to the Bakthang Waterfall, a mesmerizing natural attraction originating from Ratey Chu, creating a soothing environment. Your journey then leads you to the Tashi Viewpoint, where you can take in the magnificent snow peaks of the Himalayas. Visit the Ganesh Tok, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, and the Enchey Monastery, a 200-year-old monastery with a rich history.

During your time in Gangtok, explore the Directorate of Handicraft and Handloom, where you can witness the creation of exquisite handicrafts. A visit to The Mall, a popular shopping area, provides an opportunity to indulge in some retail therapy. You'll return to your hotel for a peaceful overnight stay.

 

Day 6: Gangtok - Kalimpong (75kms)

Following breakfast, you'll check out from your hotel and begin your journey to Kalimpong, a charming hill station perched on a ridge above the Teesta River. Upon your arrival, you'll check in at your hotel and then set out to explore this picturesque town.

Your Kalimpong city tour includes visits to the MacFarlane Memorial Church, named after a Scottish missionary who worked in the area. Dr. Graham's Homes, a school and orphanage founded by another Scottish missionary, showcases the town's dedication to education and welfare.

Your exploration continues with a visit to the Durpin Monastery, home to sacred Buddhist scriptures, and the Deolo Park, which offers stunning views of the town and the hills beyond. Additional cultural experiences await at the Thongsa Gompa, the oldest monastery in Kalimpong, and the Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Gompa, a monastery renowned for its Tibetan wall paintings and its school of Tibetan medicine. As your day of exploration concludes, you'll return to your hotel in Kalimpong for a comfortable overnight stay.

 

Day 7: Kalimpong - Bagdogra (75kms)

After breakfast, you'll check out from your hotel and drive to Bagdogra airport for your onward journey. This marks the end of your captivating tour, leaving you with lasting memories of the scenic beauty, cultural heritage, and spiritual essence of the region.
